Mountain Lion OS X – with several million downloads in the space of a few days – has turned to be enormously popular. And it has been working great for millions of users
But it’s not immune to problems and bugs. Many users have reported several wireless connection problems in the past and it appears to be a simple but consistent problem. osXDaily posted elaborate and detailed information on the problem – although the cause is as yet unknown.
Fix OS X Mountain Lion Wireless Connection Problems
We’ve made a crux of it and gotten the best solution that most users say has worked for them. You can try them – they’re not geeky or lengthy processes – and tell us if it worked for you.
Method #1
Users have reported that this method has worked like a charm. It’s easy and it has a very high success rate. Here we go:
There’s something called MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) which seems to be a source of the problem of constant loss of network connection.
• Open System Preferences (from Apple Menu)
• Select “Network”
• Now click “Advanced” button in the lower corner
• In the tab that opens up, select “Hardware” (right-most option)
• In the “Configure” drop-down, select “Manually”
• And in the MTU drop-down right below, select “Custom”
• In the text-box right below, enter 1453
The 1453 seems to be a standard CISCO number – I don’t think we need to delve deep into it. You can read more about MTU here.
Method #2
This one is a bit lengthier than the previous one but it’s another method that can help.
• Open System Preferences from the Apple menu
• Choose “Network”
• Click the “Location” menu, for the drop-down and
• Click “Edit Locations…”
• Now, click on the ‘+’ to add a new location.
• Give some random name to the new location and then click Done
• Head back to the Network menu and then choose the new network.
Your network should be working fine now, but let’s renew the DHCP lease.
• From the same Network panel, choose “Advanced” option. (lower-right corner)
• Now click the “TCP/IP” tab
• In the Configure IPv4 drop-down, choose Using DHCP.
• Now click “Renew DHCP Lease”
• When prompted, click on Apply.
• Click OK and come out of the options.
All this should actually fix OS X Mountain Lion wireless connection problems.
If however even these don’t fix the problems for you, you can try the last method:
Method #3
• Do a complete “fresh” re-install of the entire Mac OS X 10.8. This should fix it for sure.
