How to Install Android 4.1.1 on Samsung Galaxy S3 with this leaked Jelly Bean ROM

Although not even a handful of devices run Android Jelly Bean as yet, it is apparent that the software is catching up. Galaxy Note is expected to get the Jelly Bean update sometime next month while many devices are lined up for release with Jelly Bean running on them.

But if you’re eager to get your hands on Jelly Bean right away on your Galaxy S III, an XDA member got some stuff for you. Here’s a detailed tutorial on how to install Android 4.1.1 on Galaxy S III GT-i9300.

Note that this bootrom is specifically for the GT i-93000 model of Galaxy S III. Further, we must inform our readers that this process will void the warranty of your Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone and we are not to be held responsible for errors or damages that you incur while following the process.

What You Need

  • A PC.
  • Rooted Galaxy S III GT i9300 (you will have to root your smartphone to proceed with the instructions)
  • ClockworkMod Recovery (you’ll have to install this on your Galaxy S III to do the complete wipe and factory reset)
  • USB Cable
  • ODIN and Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 for S III (leaked) (files are available from the XDA-forum linked here).

How to Install Android 4.1.1 On Samsung Galaxy S3:

Step 1: Download the files given in this forum post.
The files contain Android Jelly bean 4.1.1 for Galaxy S III (leaked: I9300XXDLG4) and ODIN v1.85.

Step 2: Extract the contents of the downloaded file to somewhere accessible easily.

Step 3: Power down your Galaxy S III. Once it’s shut down, press and hold Home+Power+Volume Down buttons to get to the Download Mode.

Step 4: From the downloaded and extracted files, launch ODIN v1.85.

Step 5: Connect your Samsung Galaxy S III to your PC and ODIN will automatically detect that your phone has been connected.

Step 6: Now, within ODIN, click on PDA.
Choose CODE_I9300XXDLG4_11164_REV00_eng_mid_noship.tar.md5 (this file will be inside the Jelly Bean ROM you downloaded in step 1).

Step 7: Uncheck Re-partition and then click Start.

Step 8: Your device might go into a boot loop. Remove the battery.
Now, press Home+Power+Volume Up so that you get into the recovery mode. (Clockwork Recovery).

Step 9: In the recovery mode, just select wipe/factory reset. Then select reboot system now.

And you’re done!
