Issa Asad Shares 3 Sneaky Secrets to Being an Awesome Developer
If you think great developers are superhuman, you’re incorrect.
“Yes, developers have multitudinous variables and complex moving parts to plow through daily, but they are just like the rest of us, they need a little help from their friends from time to time,” said Issa Asad Florida businessman and entrepreneur since 1996. Mr. Asad is the CEO of Quadrant Holdings and Q Link Wireless, located in South Florida.
Some may even call it cheating, but, hey, resources are resources, and everyone, even developers, needs a leg-up.
Here Issa Asad Shares 3 Sneaky Secrets to Being an Awesome Developer:
1. Stack Overflow
This site has the reputation of being many programmers’ most-used reference location. It is an online community that allows anyone to ask a question that will be answered by master-class programmers. Why are these guys so gracious? Well, before you decide it’s because they feel it is their civic duty, let me add, the more posting of answers, the higher they go in ranking and the more personal branding they achieve. The users on Stack Overflow make no bones about it. The discussion forum is a no “chit-chat” zone. And, in the end, everyone wins, especially the global developer community.
2. GitHub
One of the best ways to solve problems is to look at how others have built something like the problem-related project. Ask any do-it-yourselfer; watching is the best way to learn a new skill. GitHub is perfect for doing just that. This site has code that is open to the public. Programmers post their projects on GitHub, along with in-line editing and a source-code browser provided by the host. That means many open source projects are there at your disposal. On top of all that, the community that makes up GitHub is remarkably responsive and active. GitHub understands that better code comes from collaboration, so they have created a space for just that. It also secures the codes on the site, controls who accesses your information and reliably hosts your work.
3. /R/Programming
If you would like to be part of a community of your peers and find the answers to your questions, there is Reddit’s Programming page. Surprisingly, some programmers are unaware that Reddit is a great place to share and read software development news, learn new tricks and tips, read about other programmers’ experiences, and, of course, ask and answer questions.
Reddit posts pages containing specific languages and sub-industries (i.e. web development, network security) on the right sidebar of your Reddit page.
For any readers who are just getting started in the world of development or if you are intent on becoming the best you can be in your current job, checking out these sites may be a game-changer. The more you spend time on them, the more you read, the more you “watch,” just like for any endeavor, the more you will understand and assimilate how to write software and be a part of where it’s going.
When you think about it, the programming industry is all about puzzles. Consider the on-going time and effort you put into educating yourself a metaphor. You are uncovering puzzle pieces and fitting them together in new and marvelous ways.
